| Optimist Spring Championships
Cardiff Bay
The first major regatta of the season for the optimist fleet saw 200 boats and sailors on the start line on the waters of a sunny Cardiff bay. This included most of the top sailors in the class, many of which have spent the winter in rya training squads.
On Saturday morning all of the optimist sailors and parents were up bright and early ready for a big days sailing (and for parents, a big day watching). In the morning there wasn’t any wind on the water and when there was, it was very shifty so we didn’t get any races in. In the afternoon there was a bit more wind and the race officer managed to get 2 good races in, which all the local sailors did very well in.
Sunday was also an early wake for all of us so we were all quite tired. For the whole day we had a bit more wind so we managed to get in another 3 races. All of the local sailors also did well in those races, so well done to Stirling Taylor(107th), James Hutton-Penman(63rd), Kathryn Hutton-penman(167th), Tom Johnson(49th) and Hamish Eckstein67th).
